Red lights, hurried drivers a bad combo

The vast majority of red light accidents occur within the first few seconds of a signal light change. Unless they're drunk or on their phones most red light runners are not blowing through the light in the middle of a light cycle. Rather most are trying to beat the light and didn't make it in time. So just be careful. Don't just blindly go the second your light turns green. Take a couple seconds and check both directions. And if you're approaching an intersection and the light has been green for awhile then expect it to change at any moment. Don't be in such a hurry that you feel the need to blow through a yellow light. If you're far enough back when the light turns yellow then go ahead and slow down and stop. The yellow is there to give those who are too close to safely slow to a stop before the light turns red. Yellow doesn't mean speed up if you're still a block away. If we all slow down, take care and remember that we aren't the only people in the world things will be a whole lot better.
